Bendigo Art Gallery presents a Blockbuster event [1 August - November 6 2011]
OK, so yes, ... it's gone now, but read on:
A WORLD premiere exhibition of wedding dresses from London’s Victoria and Albert Museum will open in Bendigo in August 2011.
The exhibition includes bridal dresses, veils, corsetry, millinery, shoes and accessories, as well as gowns by designers including Charles Frederick Worth, Norman Hartnell, John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, Vera Wang, Christian Lacroix, Lanvin, Philip Treacy and Stephen Jones.
Bendigo Art Gallery will also curate a section highlighting wedding costumes in Australia from colonial settlement to contemporary fashions. Victorians and visitors to our state will have the opportunity to see this fantastic exhibition before it is even shown in London.

Hunts Folly is a great base from which to start a weekend event of your own. Bendigo is close by for indulging in the World Premiere show, not to mention great regional food, wine and other attractions. Check out Bendigo Art Gallery here. A preview of the show is on Facebook here. An ABC TV promo is here. A press release on Artshub is here.
We would love to book you in for a Blockbuster weekend or mid week escape. Warning - book all shows well in advance.

Fascinating Goldfield town stories and pictures unlocking times past. There are a number of quirky and out of the ordinary stories to be found at the Culture Victoria site http://cv.vic.gov.au/
Culture Victoria is currently featuring the curious work of Wal Richards "The cycling photographer".

We particularly like the following, but there are plenty more to sample:

The cycling wedding photographer http://cv.vic.gov.au/stories/the-cycling-wedding-photographer/ Wal loved weddings. Given a box brownie camera as a young man in 1946, he started cycling on his blue and white bike to weddings in Maryborough and surrounding towns The collection was donated to the Maryborough-Midlands Historical Society. His striking photos and remarkable story generated broad interest and was written up in Time Magazine.

The infamous Lola Montez performed her famous 'spider dance' at a number of goldfield music halls during the 1850's gold rush http://cv.vic.gov.au/stories/lola-montez-star-attraction/
